Alter Eagle is a full service residential building and construction company.
We work with a small crew of professionals and the owner Gordon, a master carpenter,
is on site during all phases of construction.
We work mainly in the San Francisco North Bay.
We cover Sonoma County, North and West Marin and East Napa counties.
We are located in Sebastopol just outside Santa Rosa, California.
Alter Eagle is for those of you who are seeking the personal attention that can only be provided by a contractor who dedicates ourselves to one project at a time. We are extremly loyal to our customers.
I know, I've probably mentioned it too often but I am a master carpenter.
See "What is a master Carpenter" where I wrote a little on the history.
A master is the top of our trade and there isn't too many of us so maybe I'm too proud of that, but what that means for you is you get the best.
We don't believe in the "handyman" philosophy of building we use only certified licensed sub-trades
with proper credentials. We care about you.
We believe education is vital to providing you with the best possible building
experience. We keep up to date with the new technologies, codes and building practices.

install crown mouldings and do fine finish carpentry. You may have come across my "How to install crown moulding" site if you have looked for information on the subject. It is featured on the online encylopedia wikipedia and is considered one the best sites on the subject.
We feel a friendship and a loyalty to our clients and enjoy the privilege of providing quality old fashioned service. We are dedicated to helping our clients achieve their construction objectives within budget and in a professional timely manner.
My Grandfather was a craftsman, he was the one called to build the large timber framed barns. My father learned his carpentry trade from him, and my Uncle Wilf' was a master boat builder / cabinet maker. Growing up around them you built it once and you better build it right or you spent the rest of the day straightening bent nails.
A carpenter who works with his hands is a handyman,
a carpenter who works with his hands and brain is a craftsman,
but a carpenter who works with his hands his brain and his heart is a master.

We were extremly lucky to win a mediteranean cruise for our community service. Where I was able to study the ancient masters first hand, now when ever we see a picture of the coliseum or that
The study of the History of the architectural elements led me to open our store "The King of Crown" in Santa Rosa. It fell victim to the hard economic times but we still continue to
You've heard it all, so I'm doing my best to avoid the "we're job one" type quotes.
We're professionals we build it once and we build it right.
I'm very good at what I do, I know I hold you and your families safety in my hands when I work for you, I take that very seriously.
I used to own a large company, now it's small and personal, I like it this way. I can be hands on and I make sure all of the work is the way I want it to be. If it isn't out it goes, and I wish I had a box of bent nails I could put to use sometimes.
What it comes down to is I prefer to work with you, not just for you.
I have a site in addition to our deck page that contains a lot of our deck projects from framing to finish as well building decks in Northern California.
I also am the professional on-line deck representative for Bob Vila of This Old House fame.

restoration work. A lot of my apprenticeship was spent with an historical board and I have had the honor to restore one of the oldest forts in North America.
I must admit I love what I do for a living, I enjoy my work and nothing gives me more pleasure than doing a job my customers appreciate and that I can be proud of. You know if you have what I call "the carpenter bug". Everyone is watching the movie, you are looking at that fantastic looking wooden arch and how it ties in with mouldings, or you visit a friends house and BAM your eyes are on that crowns mitered corner that is filled with caulking. Well, welcome to the club.
I have a great respect for the traditions of carpentry and the history of architecture. I live in a century craftsman from the arts & crafts movement and am slowly bringing it back. I have received awards for my
Watching my Uncle do amazing things bending mahogany boat rails, build a cabin cruiser from scratch in his shop, to visiting the old neighborhood and still see the barns my Grandad built instilled in me the love of carpentry.
